Bellevue First Congregational Church
A shining example of adaptive reuse in wood, the Bellevue First Congregational Church transformed a cold, lackluster 1970’s office building that occupied the space before it into a place of light, sound and beauty for its community in Bellevue, Washington. The 49,000-square-foot sanctuary designed by atelierjones features cross-laminated-timber (CLT) panels, inserted as an irregular, folded plate structure that exhibits both greater structural stability and a rich
interplay of light, shadow and texture.
